Agreed, there are plenty of oil options in the market and even if you are looking specifically for cold pressed oils, you will be able to find so much.

So, why should you choose cold pressed sesame oil for your stir fry recipes?

The golden oil that is derived from toasted sesame seeds has a distinct nutty flavour and is a much-loved ingredient in Asian cuisines. If you want to add a depth in terms of taste, then you need to pick this oil. Stir fries need to have quick cooking and you need to have an oil that can handle that high heat, quick cooking. If you are looking for an oil that will offer your stir fries that perfect hint of smokiness and warmth, then this is the oil that you need.

Tips for easy healthy stir fry recipes with cold pressed sesame oils

If you have ever seen the live kitchen of an Asian restaurant, you will see how ‘fast and furious’ the stir fry wok is! If you want to try making a stir fry at home, you need to make sure that you are ready and have everything prepped.

  • Like we said, stir frying is fast paced, which means before you even begin cooking, chop all your vegetables, meats, and other ingredients and have them set up near the stove, so that you can be quick.
  • The key to a good stir-fry is high heat and if possible, use a large wok or fry pan, which needs to be heated really well first. Only once the pan is super hot should you add the oil and start the cooking. This will ensure the perfect sear on your ingredients.
  • Never over crowd your pan, because too many ingredients will reduce the heat of the pan and that will lead to steaming rather than frying.
  • Timing is important, which is why you should cook according to the time it take for the chosen ingredients – hard veggies like carrots and broccoli need more time, and they should go into the pan first, but softer veggies like mushroom or spinach should go in last.

Sesame vegetable tofu stir-fry

This is one of the healthiest recipes you can try and easily one of the most delicious ones too – plenty of veggies (bell pepper, broccoli, zucchini and carrots) and firm tofu go into the making of this stir fry. Once your pan is super-hot, add in the cold pressed sesame oil and cool your tofu first; just till its crispy on all sides. Now remove the tofu and in the remaining oil, toss some chopped garlic and then add all the veggies. Remember to keep the vegetables crips, but they should be cooked. Add soy sauce, hoisin sauce, and rice vinegar to the pan, stirring well to coat the vegetables and finally the tofu. Finish with sesame seeds to reinforce the sesame flavour!

Sesame stir-fry with cashews

If you want something a little richer, something that you can serve up to guests, you will like this recipe. In a hot wok, you want to pour a generous spoonful of cold pressed sesame oil. Stir fry a large handful of cashews, till they are roasted and then remove them. To the same pan, add another spoon of oil and then stir fry some minced garlic and sliced ginger. Now add beans, bell pepper, carrots, and baby corn to the pan and sauté them well. Stir in some soy sauce, green chilli sauce, vinegar and just a dash of honey and finish with the fried cashews and spring onion greens.

Mushroom and spinach stir-fry

If you like to keep your stir fries simple, then this is the recipe for you! Start by heating the wok and then some cold pressed sesame oil and sauteing garlic till its fragrant. Now, add chopped mushrooms (you can use whatever is available or even a mix of mushrooms) and let it cook till the water is released. Once the mushrooms are golden, toss the spinach in and as soon as the leaves wilt, season with soy sauce and vinegar. Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions before serving.

Remove and in the same oil, toss in some garlic, bell peppers, zucchini and broccoli, and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until tender-crisp. Now, the chicken goes back into the pan and so does some soy sauce, honey and vinegar. Your stir fry will be ready in minutes and all you need to do is garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.
